For over 30 years, Red Bull has brought its wild and wacky Flugtag event to over 50 different countries. And this weekend, it’s back again as audacious pilots will launch their human-powered, home-made crafts into the Ohio River in Cincinnati.
Named after the German word for “flying day,” Red Bull Flugtag is simple – teams build a homemade, human-powered aircraft, then one brave and bold member of each team launches that craft off of a 27-foot-tall elevated platform and into a body of water, seeing how far they can fly before falling into the water below.
The teams are then judged by a celebrity panel of judges based on the creativity of their craft design, their performance, as well as the distance of their flight. This year’s panel of judges includes Cincinnati Bengals legend Chad Johnson, three-time Olympic skier Nick Goepper, Cincinnati-based drag queen Jessica Dimon, TikTok personality Cale Saurage, and media personality Chloe Pavlech.
The free event will be held in Cincinnati, Ohio at 1 p.m. ET on Saturday, Aug. 12 at Sawyer Point Park & Yeatman’s Cove with 30,000 spectators expected to attend.
ESPN2 will broadcast a replay of Red Bull Flugtag Cincinnati on Saturday, Aug. 19 from 6 – 7 p.m. ET. Outside the home, Red Bull Flugtag will stream live exclusively in restaurants, bars, and other businesses via the Red Bull TV channel on Atmosphere. Atmosphere is the largest streaming TV platform for businesses, available in over 60,000 venues worldwide and reaching over 120 million viewers per month.
In addition, fans can now go to RedBull.com/FlugtagCincinnati to vote for the People’s Choice Award, presented by T-Mobile, given to the favorite craft. The award will be announced at the conclusion of the event.
