I’ll just let that headline marinate for a little bit while you all consider plans to move to Detroit. While the Motor City has had quite a bit of bad luck in its recent history, the fact that they’re getting the world’s first combination Applebee’s and IHOP is just the good luck they need to turn their fortunes around.

Both Applebee’s and IHOP are owned by the same company, DineEquity, so it seemed inevitable that this amazing combination would come together at some point. The restaurant will be located at the Millender Center in downtown Detroit. The Detroit Free-Press said the menu is still being developed, but it doesn’t take rocket science to figure out what it should be: First you order pancakes, then you order wings and beer. Done.

Per the Free-Press

“This is the first IHOP/Applebee’s combo that’s ever been built anywhere,” said Mark Schostak, the chairman of the company franchising the store. The Schostak company “is proud to expand our portfolio by uniquely combining two nationally recognized and family-oriented brands.”

PR-speak aside, even if you’re not a fan of either of these two chains (and that’s understandable), when you’re  in Detroit you must go to this restaurant and make it thrive so more of these stores can pop up across the country with haste. There is nothing more American than going from eating pancakes and omelettes as an appetizer to then eating wings and the like for a main course in the same restaurant.
