Weird food stories pop up all the time, but sometimes the item still leaves you scratching your head when it’s really out there. Hot Cheeto bagels definitely count.

The Bagel Nook, a bagel shop in New Jersey, is really setting the standard for “out there” with their new bagels. We’ve covered them before when they made an Oreo bagel that looked half delicious and half demented. A food that you would have to try for yourself.

The Flamin’ Hot Cheeto bagel is their new creation. The Oreo and Cheeto bagels aren’t their only creations, though. They have a Dorito bagel, a Fruity Pebbles bagel and a Coco Puff bagel.

Owner Alex Berkowitz was asked why the Cheeto bagel considering all of his possible options. In his answer to Mashable, he really summed it up perfectly: whole lot of sweet, not a lot of savory in their prior works of art.

“The idea of the Flamin’ Hot Cheeto Bagel was developed because most of our bagels are sweet. We first started with a savory spinach garlic, then decided that was too common.”

The result of his first experiment was the Dorito bagel, but he didn’t give up there:

“We then needed to up the anti with savory and hot. So the Flamin’ Hot Cheeto with ghost pepper cream cheese was introduced.”

Not sure if Berkowitz is a hero or a villain. If I had to decide on behalf of my arteries, he would fall under villain. Surprisingly (or maybe unsurprisingly, actually) his bagels sell out every day. Making his shop quite popular. They also are available to order online for those that are interested.

Bagels could be the new food frontier. The funkier the idea, the better. Just make sure to prepare your stomach beforehand.
