Reese's BBQ sandwich

Ballpark food can get very experimental at times and the latest sandwich from the Kansas City Royals is making a lot of people question their sanity.

As revealed by Kari Steele from ABC 15 in Phoenix, the Royals are going to have a “BBQ Reese’s Sandwich.” A BBQ Reese’s Sandwich is exactly what it sounds like. It’s a sandwich with pieces of Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, pulled pork, and bacon, topped with Sweet Baby Ray’s BBQ sauce.

First off, and I say this as someone who lived in Kansas City, of all the great BBQ places in KC, going with Sweet Baby Ray’s is a…choice. I get it, it’s probably a contractual thing with Aramark, but yeah.

Anyway, many had strong opinions about this sandwich. Shockingly, it wasn’t all bad. There was a healthy mix of those who don’t want anything to do with this, those who are dying to try one, and those who are using it as a reason to brag about how their city’s BBQ is better. For the record, an overpriced sandwich that’s only available at the ballpark doesn’t have anything to do with BBQ throughout the rest of Kansas City.

Apparently, this isn’t the only wild food monstrosity at Kauffman Stadium. The stadium food Twitter account posted that they will also be selling a “Jerry Garcia Dog” that has “jalapeño pickled dancing gummy bear relish” to celebrate Grateful Dead Day on Wednesday.

Godspeed, Royals fans.
