McDonald’s is trying to innovate and stay ahead of trends for the future, and one of them is apparently removing dining tables and chairs from their restaurants. For this location, the idea makes total sense.

This new location has opened up in Jersey City, New Jersey, and is targeted for commuters on the go. The traditional drive-thru window is still present, but the restaurant also has a walk-up window where customers can order and then get back on the road again.

The chain has been looking for ways to speed up service after complaints that it is too slow. The average wait for a drive-thru order was three minutes, 9.5 seconds, which is the longest wait time in 15 years. At this new location, the wait time is on average 90 seconds. Same store sales for the chain increased 5.7 percent in December as McDonald’s tried to increase the number of drive-thru locations and slim down its bloated menu.

I haven’t eaten in a McDonald’s dining room since I was young enough to play in the play area. It’s evident that most customers want to take their food and leave, so this new restaurant style may end up catching on with customers looking to get their fast food fast. Or, it may be that McDonald’s is still bad. Who knows?
