San Diegoites… San Diegoans… San Diegans? Whatever. People who live in San Diego. There’s good news for you! Residents of the city can now enjoy a tasty side dish to go along with the main course of schadenfreude in rooting against the newly christened Los Angeles Chargers.

A local Mexican restaurant is giving away free tacos for each Chargers loss this season. And judging by the team’s 0-2 start, there may be plenty of opportunities for the team’s former fans in San Diego to cash in.

Via 10News comes the story of El Pollo Grill giving this service to anyone who mentions the “Spanos Taco” in honor of the owner who moved the team, Dean Spanos.

A South Bay Mexican restaurant is offering customers a free taco the day after any Chargers loss.

Victor Lopez runs El Pollo Grill on Bonita Rd. near I-805.

Lopez said he was a lifelong Chargers fan until the team moved. Now, he wants the team to go winless, despite what it may cost him.

Customers must say the secret words to the cashier – Spanos Taco.

In case you haven’t yet heard, things aren’t exactly going well for the Chargers since their controversial move north up the California coast. The team has to play its home games in the way-too-small-to-be-a-legitimate-NFL-stadium Stubhub Center. And even with a capacity of 27,000 (almost half as much as the next smallest NFL stadium) there were still plenty of empty seats seen this weekend in the Chargers’ home opener against the Dolphins.

Moreover, there appeared to be plenty of Dolphins fans in attendance as well. If it’s any consolation, if there are any actual Los Angeles Chargers fans out there, maybe they can make the trek down to San Diego and cheer themselves up with a taco too. El Pollo Grill does have a five star review on TripAdvisor.
