This year’s Super Bowl between the Kansas Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles was broadcast on FOX. Considering the massive investment made by the network and an even larger amount of money it hopes to make from showing the biggest sporting event of the year, the network probably expected full support for the job it did on the broadcast from its employees.

Unfortunately, that’s been anything but the case. Rap superstar Kendrick Lamar performed at this year’s halftime concert, and the predominantly right-leaning FOX hosts weren’t exactly fans.

Lamar was the first rapper to be the sole headline performer at the Super Bowl halftime show, which served as a sort of viability test for future endeavors.

Lamar’s biggest fans appreciated what they interpreted as a critique of American culture during his performance, however, a lot of others didn’t exactly appreciate the performance.

Many were either confused or angry with Lamar, and the FOX News hosts especially were left unpleased with the performance.

Jeanine Pirro noted that the halftime show was confounding for her, Sean Hannity described it as “awful,”  while Will Cain even suggested that the next halftime show ought to be a Trump rally, according to Mediaite.

While it’s not exactly surprising for the FOX News hosts to be so starkly opposed to a rap performance, it’s still interesting given the massive investment the company that signs their checks made in it.

Perhaps in the future, the network will opt to go in a direction its core audience will appreciate more.
