2025 started brilliantly for tech billionaire Elon Musk, the owner of Tesla and SpaceX. After assisting Donald Trump on the campaign trail, the 47th President of the United States appointed Musk to his administration as an efficiency when he returned to the White House in January.
As an efficiency expert, Musk has served as the head of DOGE, a new agency focused on eliminating government jobs and working toward the closure of what it deems to be excess federal agencies as well.
However, things have taken a turn for the worse for Musk. Musk dumped $25 million into Wisconsin’s Supreme Court race for the Republican Brad Schimel, but Schimmel lost to Democrat Susana Crawford, putting Musk at the center of losing the most expensive Supreme Court race in United States history.
Things are still trending in the wrong direction for Musk. Over the weekend, Musk quit playing his favorite video game in an explosion of rage after being cyberbullied during a live stream, according to The Daily Beast.
Musk live-streamed himself playing Path of Exile 2, and not only struggled mightily playing the game but was also relentlessly cyberbullied. Users logged onto the live stream and commented things such as “please jerk off mr trump so he dies of a heart attack.”
Things didn’t improve from there. After rage quitting the game, Musk left the stream open, and the bullying continued.
“For the next hour and a half, Musk sat in stony-faced silence and blasted techno music while dozens of users with names such as ELON_IS_A_PEEDOPHILE and ELON_MUSK_IS_PATHETIC repeatedly spammed the chat to tell him ‘YOU HAVE NO FRIENDS AND YOU WILL DIE ALONE’ and ‘YOU WILL ALWAYS FEEL INSECURE AND IT WILL NEVER GO AWAY,’” reported Tom Sanders of The Daily Beast.
People reacted to the news on social media.
“Does he genuinely have no concept of how absolutely *despised* he is among millions of people? He is second up in the running against Trump for ‘first human being to be literally hated more than Hitler,'” one person wrote on Twitter.
“Imagine being a billionaire and people still think youre a loser,” one person added.
“In a normal world this shouldn’t be a thing. It’s kinda funny though,” someone else wrote.
It’ll be interesting to see if Trump starts to distance himself from Musk.
