It has long been known that Nintendo’s head plumber was coming to mobile gaming, but what wasn’t known was when he’d arrive, or how much the game would cost. And now we know, as Nintendo dropped more info on Tuesday about Super Mario Run.

Nintendo announced that the game would be released on December 15th, and like Pokemon Go, with a free version and a full-featured version. However, the free version of the game will have a limited set of features, while the full game will cost $9.99.

The game will only be available on iOS devices, meaning those with iPads, iPhones and iPods will be able to download the game. iOS devices will have to be running iOS version 8.0 or later.

Those wishing to just play the free game will be limited to “try(ing) elements of the game’s three modes for free.”

It’s probably going to be a smash for Nintento. As big as Pokemon Go got this summer, there isn’t a franchise that has impacted more gamers throughout the years than Super Mario Bros. series. Whether you grew up playing the NES, Super Nintendo, Game Boy, or Nintendo 64, a Super Mario game (or three) was likely a cornerstone of your collection.

It’s a smart move to bring Mario into the smart phone gaming market. Now, the bigger question is if this game will have more life than PokemonGo, which was truly a societal phenomenon this summer, though the craze has slowed in the months since.

If Nintendo handles Super Mario Run correctly, though, it’s easy to envision a long life, with players downloading (and maybe paying for) new worlds and levels to keep the game fresh going forward.
