Cadaver on autopsy table, label tied to toe

Don’t be this guy for New Year’s Eve, folks.

A Russian man woke up in a morgue after being declared dead following a night of vodka rounds with friends. Yes, he had a few too many. After his resurrection, the man apparently went back to the party he unwillingly left. This is a real story.

As RT reports, the man was mistaken for dead after he passed out from drinking. His friends called an ambulance and he was declared dead. After being place in a mortuary freezer, the man woke up.

“That night the local morgue was filled to its capacity, the bodies were not only on the shelves, but also on the floor of the freezer room, where our ‘dead’ hero was allocated,” Aleksey Stoyev, a police spokesman, told the local Khasanskiye Vesti newspaper.

“At some point, the man woke up, failing to understand where he was. It was very dark and cold. In addition his brain was foggy due to the influence of alcohol. In the darkness, he felt someone’s completely cold limbs and in fear rushed to the door. But it was locked.”

That’s a bunch of my nightmares rolled into one, and also sounds like the worst hangover experience possible. No wonder he needed a drink afterwards.

According to the Khasanskiye Vesti report, the man screamed and pounded on the door and eventually got the attention of a guard on duty. The guard told the doctors, who thought he was “imagining things.” Police eventually arrived and when they opened the door, the man ran out of the room. After being questioned, he was released and returned to where the party was being held.

That’s not it. When he returned to that party, his friends were commemorating him. One of those friends fainted when he opened the door and saw his presumably dead comrade. The ceremony changed from a commemoration to something of a birthday party from there.

So I guess dead isn’t dead. And maybe certain Russian ambulance workers should check a bit more thoroughly before making such a fatal proclamation in the future.
