There’s often some crazy video out there from dashcams, whether it’s the 2014 meteor shower in Russia or the car that launched itself into the second story of a California dental office in January 2018. Well, one from Toronto this week shows what could have been an absolute disaster, with video from Bill Chan’s tow truck dashcam catching a small plane that shot across the road right in front of him:

This happened near Markham (a city about 30 kilometres from downtown Toronto)’s Buttonville Airport on Tuesday afternoon. Chan spoke to the CBC and said he felt very lucky to avoid a crash:
Chan told CBC Toronto it was his day off and he was on his way to a family meal at the time of the incident. After it happened, he said he and his colleagues rushed out to buy $300 worth of lottery tickets, hoping his luck would continue.
Meanwhile the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) is investigating what caused the white Cirrus SR20 to crash.
The TSB said the plane went down around 2 p.m. Tuesday, and came to rest on an embankment on the north side of 16th Avenue, near Highway 404, a busy multi-lane highway. The male pilot and a single female passenger were uninjured, though the aircraft sustained significant damage.
In a tweet, the TSB classified the crash as a “runway excursion,” meaning the plane likely overshot the runway.
