A runaway garbage truck crashed into a store near Rochester, New York, causing a bit of irony based on the name of the business it crashed into. The garbage truck crashed into a business called “A Beautiful Mess,” which is a local “art, gift and oddities shop.”

Yeah, it provided a bit of a laugh but it’s probably not funny to the shop’s owner, Jeri Flack. She opened the business this past July and while retail stores are getting ready for Christmas and the holiday season, it’s not the best time to have a garbage truck plow through the front of your business. It’s not a great time for that to happen at any point but especially now.

Flack said that her business is losing over $1,000 per day while the shop is closed and is going to take a lot of cleanup. The building is over 200 years old and the truck caused structural damage to the building, as well as breaking a window and damaging the roof.

So what exactly happened? According to eyewitnesses, the garbage truck driver parked at a Sunoco station to go to the restroom and the truck rolled off. The truck apparently rolled in between a couple gas pumps, across the street and into the business.

It’s unknown whether the driver forgot to put the parking brake on or the truck popped out of gear but the owner of the business is going to be seeking money from the garbage company for the damages. Frankly, I don’t blame her. I’m sure she has insurance but it’s probably not going to cover everything. And the longer she’s closed, the more money she’s losing for a situation that’s not her fault.
