squirrel

A Chicago squirrel sacrificed its life a couple weeks ago in order to protect the greater good.

Chicago politician Howard Brookins, an alderman of Chicago’s 21st ward, said in a council meeting last month he blamed squirrels for raiding residents trash cans. Brookins said the city was wasting money by replacing trash cans. Basically, he put the onus on pesky squirrels for being trash-lovers.

Well, one courageous squirrel sought revenge, even if it meant paying the ultimate price.

Brookins posted a disturbing picture on Facebook showing the incident. Poor squirrel.

Brookins was seriously injured in the crash, needing multiple surgeries to fix losing five or six teeth, a broken nose, and a fractured skull. Brookins was in good spirits about the accident, comparing the squirrel’s death-run to a suicide bomber to the Chicago Tribune.

“I can think of no other reason for this squirrel’s actions than that it was like a suicide bomber, getting revenge,” he said Monday as he began what his doctors have told him will be a monthslong recovery, including further surgeries.

In all seriousness, it sucks Brookins was injured in the crashed. It also sucks the squirrel was killed in the accident. Hopefully, Brookins is inspired to put his differences with the furry creature aside and ensure the safety of both his constituents and wildlife in this trash-filled world.
