Republican Presidential candidate and “say-anything-just-for-attention” grabber Donald Trump proposed an all-out ban on Muslims entering the U.S. earlier this week, and now beloved Muslim athletes (and just about everybody on the planet) are calling him out.

Former Lakers great and Hall-of-Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar didn’t mince words in a piece written on Time.com. He called out Trump for his “deliberate propagation of misinformation.”

“Trump’s irresponsible, inflammatory rhetoric and deliberate propagation of misinformation have created a frightened and hostile atmosphere that could embolden people to violence. He’s the swaggering guy in old Westerns buying drinks for everyone in the saloon while whipping them up for a lynching.

“Electing him would be like asking the clown at a child’s birthday party to start juggling chainsaws.”

Muhammad Ali said in a statement that political leaders should help bring understanding about the religion.

“True Muslims know that the ruthless violence of so-called Islamic Jihadists goes against the very tenets of our religion,” Ali said in a statement to The Associated Press. “I believe that our political leaders should use their position to bring understanding about the religion of Islam and clarify that these misguided murderers have perverted people’s views on what Islam really is.”

Those are strong words from two of not only most the respected athletes, but people on the planet. They are statements that shouldn’t have to be made, but in a day and age where Trump has such a big platform, and people are taking his nonsense seriously, the showing of unity against discrimination is tremendous.

Trump’s anti-Muslim rhetoric is misleading, offensive and wrong. He’s an attention hog who will say anything for support, and these latest comments cross about every line imaginable.

For his part, Trump continued to stick to his guns on social media.

Honestly, this is buffoonery at it’s finest.
