Rats in New York City have taken on mythical status, whether it be the size of the rodents or the things they can accomplish, the stories are legendary by now.

I mean, just look at the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and their sensei known as Splinter. Last time I checked that was a walking, talking, badass rat.

Sure, he may also have been a cartoon character, but talk to people in New York City and they’ll swear that the rats in the city are likely capable of walking and talking some days. We even had “Pizza Rat” a little over a year ago.

However, one rat has set back his species a little thanks to his inability to figure out how to ride an escalator.

In this 12-second video we literally see a rat racing down an up escalator and never figuring out how to get down one more level.

Perhaps the best part is the people just avoiding the rodent like it is no big deal to see one on the escalator. No one freaks out, they just keep going about their day. Which is pretty much New York City in a nutshell.

We’re guessing this rat isn’t part of Splinter’s dojo, because we all know Splinter would’ve taught the rat how to overcome this challenge at the very least.
