Who hasn’t been waiting on that piece of important mail only for it not to show up ever? It can be extremely frustrating, especially when you know it should’ve arrived by a certain date.

For those in the Atlanta area, that frustration was likely heightened in the last quarter of this year.

That’s because those missing pieces of mail from earlier this year were sitting in the woods around Decatur, Ga. How do we know? Well, that’s because a federal grand jury has charged 25-year-old Thomas O. Beaurem of McDonough, Ga. with delaying and destroying mail.

Naturally, Beaurem has pled not guilty to the charges in front of him, but the evidence is pretty easy to trace back to the now former United States Postal Worker. I mean, it isn’t like someone from the neighborhood where the mail was found dumped recorded Beaurem or anything.

Oh, wait, that is exactly what the Atlanta Journal Constitution reported back in October:

Kellie Campbell, the homeowners association president for the Decatur subdivision, said she recorded the postal worker walking near a fence and dumping several bins of mail there.

“I sat there and recorded for about five minutes and he continued to just grab more mail and continued just to toss it over the fence,” she told Channel 2 in Atlanta.

The good news is that some of the mail dumped in to the woods wasn’t too badly damaged and was able to be sent to the owners after all. It just took a few USPS workers a handful of hours to pick up, sort through and then deliver said mail to the local residents.

So, the next time that important piece of mail doesn’t come your way, just look in the woods around your city. Chances are it may just be there.
