There are races of all kinds that steal the hearts of adoring fans, from auto racing to horse racing to track and field. Whether it’s the Indy 500, Kentucky Derby, or the 100-meter dash, the need for speed is unlike any other. And on Saturday, another big time race was held: the 21st Wienerschnitzel Wiener Nationals, which was held at Los Alamitos race course in Cypress, California.

These wiener dogs showed that despite being short in stature, they’re not creatures to shy away from competition, as they showcased their speed for a very enthusiastic audience.

The dog in blue seemed like they were in control of the race from the start, but the dog in pink showed that, despite their slow start, they have the determination to never give up despite the odds stacked against it. The fact that it placed among the top racing dogs shows its laden potential as a top racing wiener dog.

It is certainly not every day you see a competition between dogs in a similar fashion to a horse race, and with dachshunds at that. The dog in pink may not have won the race, but it certainly won over the hearts of their owners and the audience. It also goes to show big things can come in small packages. All of the contestants performed admirably, and are deserving of some very delicious treats.
