The island green at the par 3 17th at TPC Sawgrass typically claims a few victims every year, and today’s first round saw an all-timer.

Ben An ended up putting four balls in the water before finding the green en route to an 11. Four balls in the water was one too many for even the PGA Tour’s video to capture; it only shows three here, but there were definitely four total.

The third one shown there, where the ball is seemingly safe on the green only to slowly and then more quickly roll back down into the water is particularly cruel. (It’s still highly entertaining, to be clear.)

One of the Tour’s social media affiliates posted the clip with a typical caption asking for people to tag someone who would make an 11 on the 17th. An, though, demonstrated that he has a pretty solid sense of humor about himself:

That’s a fantastic way to handle it, especially considering there are plenty of pros on tour who don’t have nearly that willingness to laugh at themselves. (There are even a few who would have seen that tweet and decided to try and have it taken down, much less shared it with self-deprecation.)

Credit to An, and hopefully he avoids the water tomorrow.
