Heading into the final day of the 2023 Masters, it was Brooks Koepka’s tournament to lose.
Unfortunately for him, that’s exactly what happened as the LIV Golf star watched his four-shot Sunday lead evaporate. Jon Rahm eventually took home the green jacket instead.
On Wednesday, Koepka joined Barstool’s “Pardon My Take” podcast and was pretty honest when it came to how he’d describe the way his weekend ended compared to the way it began.
“Yeah, I’d characterize that as a choke,” Koepka said with a grin to hosts Dan Katz and Eric Sollenberger. “It was pretty bad. I mean, c’mon, you’ve got a four-shot lead. All you’ve got to do — I was playing good and just choked it away. But it’s all right. We’ll figure it out.”
Koepka is very friendly with the PMT hosts and he later told Golf.com that he was being playful, but also doubled-down on the notion that he choked away the Masters.
“Theoretically, yes, it is. It is choking, right? If you have a lead and cough it up, that’s choking. But at the same time, I’m not dwelling on it. I’ve been in the lead, that position, a couple of times and haven’t capitalized. I can’t do it every single time. I’m not perfect. As long as I can learn from it, I’ll be better off from it,” said Koepka.
