Former president Donald Trump interacts with fans John Jones-USA TODAY Sports

This week, former United States President Donald Trump is hosting the controversial Saudi-backed LIV Golf tour for this weekend’s tournament at the Trump National Golf Club – Washington, DC. And before the tournament kicks off this week, Trump had a pretty strong message for LIV Golf’s main competitor, the PGA Tour.

Donald Trump participated in the pro-am on Thursday alongside Eric Trump, Patrick Reed and Bob Koepka ahead of this week’s tournament, and during his appearance at the course, the former president told reporters that LIV Golf’s future is “very good” and that the league “unlimited money.”

He also claimed that the PGA Tour made a mistake by trying to compete with LIV Golf due to its resources.

“I think the (PGA) Tour made a major mistake by playing games. They have unlimited money, and they love it. And it’s been great publicity for Saudi Arabia,” Trump said.

LIV Golf has massive financial backing with most of its funding coming from Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund, which is why the league is able to pay such exuberant salaries to its athletes and offer such massive cash prizes to the winners of its tournaments.

It remains to be seen whether or not the PGA Tour or LIV Golf will decide to peacefully coexist. But if they don’t, it sure sounds like Trump is confident LIV would win any battle between the two golf leagues with its massive financial backing.
