It’s been a decade since Rory McIlroy has won a major. The last major he won was back in 2014 when he won The Open Championship.
He’s won three of the four majors in golf except The Masters which he came close to winning back in 2022 when he finished second. Golf legend Jack Nicklaus thinks he knows why McIlroy hasn’t won a major in a decade.
Nicklaus thinks that it is McIlroy’s mental state that is affecting his game.
He said this about McIlroy recently on the Golf Channel:
“Well, it’s been a while for him, but I’m a big Rory fan. I’ve been a big Rory fan for a long time. He’s a good guy, and he’s a wonderful player, he’s got a great golf swing, plays a lot of great shots, and I don’t know where he loses it at times. But, you know, he seems to not be able to focus all the way around.”
McIlroy admitted that maybe he has let himself be too caught up with the whole LIV Golf/PGA Tour mess that seemed to have taken its toll on his game.
Now it appears that McIlroy plans on taking a step back from all of this and concentrating more on his game and less on the issues concerning the current state of golf.
