Rory McIlroy has been outspoken in his hatred for LIV Golf from the start, so he has not reacted well to Tuesday’s stunning news of a merger between the PGA Tour and LIV.

Even after the blockbuster announcement, when it would seem that McIlroy should be burying the hatchet, the four-time PGA major winner doubled down, saying Wednesday, “I still hate LIV. Like, I hate LIV. I hope it goes away, and I fully expect that it does.”

Turns out that LIV doesn’t like McIlroy, either. Golf journalist Alan Shipnuck reported Thursday that in the wake of the merger, PGA stars will be invited to join the LIV’s team format. One anonymous LIV executive expects just about every PGA star will get an invitation — with the exception of McIlroy.

“Now we can finally get Hideki [Matsuyama] and Jon Rahm,” the executive said. “I would say every big name on the PGA Tour will get an offer. Except Rory. Nobody wants that little ***** on their team.”

McIlroy has earned praise from traditional golf fans who appreciate his support for the PGA Tour. He can continue to be a hardliner against the upstart Saudi-backed league, but it’s maintaining the division in the gold world the merger is intended to eliminate.
