Talor Gooch is at the top of his game after back-to-back wins at LIV Golf Adelaide and LIV Golf Singapore. And even so, the 31-year-old LIV golfer is not at all pleased
After his LIV Golf Adelaide victory in Australia last month, Gooch revealed during a recent appearance on the Fore The People podcast, that his $4 million jackpot for winning has dropped nearly $2 million. Gooch isn’t hurting for money, but his winnings have decreased by $1.9 million due to the tax laws in a country he doesn’t reside in.
“It was a little bit disheartening seeing 47 and a half percent because Australian taxes [do] not enter the account,” Gooch said via Golf Digest.
“It comes, you know, sometimes it’s like 48 hours, but it’s usually 24 hours after the direct deposit hits. It was a big one this last week, but yeah, it sucked that 47-and-a-half percent was withheld for Australian taxes, unfortunately … I am by no means complaining, but the four [million dollars], once you cut it all up, let’s just say that it’s a lot less than four.”
Gooch received similar prize money after his win in Singapore and has since become the first player to win back-to-back LIV titles. With the sheer amount of money involved, it’s pretty clear-cut why golfers like Gooch have defected for the Saudi-backed venture.
While few people will take up a collection for Gooch, who insists he isn’t complaining about the taxes being taken out, it’s easy to see his frustration.
