The LIV Golf League reportedly added three more golfers to its stable of competitors Saturday.
According to ESPN, DP World Tour star Thomas Pieters and past PGA Tour winners Brendan Steele and Danny Lee have signed on with the fledgling Saudi-owned league.
Pieters is ranked No. 34 in the World Golf Ranking, and Steele (three wins) and Lee (1) are past winners on the PGA Tour.
This latest news comes on the heels of an announcement that PGA Tour members Mito Pereira and Sebastian Munoz are bound for the new league.
Pieters, who has scored six international wins, is the biggest star of the bunch. Although the Belgium native has played 49 PGA Tour events, he’s not a member of the tour. He was upset that he was not invited to play in this week’s Genesis Invitational.
LIV experienced mixed results in its first season. It managed to lure some of the PGA Tour’s top stars with lucrative payouts. Among the players making the leap were Phil Mickelson, Dustin Johnson, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka.
However, the new league dealt with controversy throughout the eight-tournament season, often concerning human rights abuses in Saudi Arabia. The tour struggled to reach TV viewers and often had to give away tickets to events.
LIV Golf tees off its second season next week in Mexico.
