LPGA golfer Michelle Wie West has decided to step away from golf, at least for the time being, after the Women’s U.S. Open next week at Pine Needles.

Wie West, 32, has been a trailblazer in women’s golf. At the age of 12, she was the youngest player to qualify for an LPGA event.

Many people thought she was going to be the Tiger Woods of female golf but injuries over the years limited her career. Now, she is stepping away from the game, at least for now.

“I’m definitely not ruling anything out,” Wie West said.

One of the reasons she is walking away now is because she had her daughter in 2020 and at times, she hasn’t been able to take care of her the way she’d like to.

“At times, if I do play a lot of golf,” she said, “I’m just in bed. Or I can’t lift (Makenna) up, and that scared me.”

Wie West also said that because she has her degree from Stanford and won the U.S.Open already, she can live with her decision.

“Because I accomplished both of those, I think I feel very happy in my decision now,” Wie West said. “I think if I hadn’t won the U.S. Open, I’d still be out there competing week to week trying to get that U.S. Open win.”

If this is indeed the end for Wie West, she will end her career with 5 LPGA wins and one major.
