A horrifying moment occurred in the middle of Friday’s second round of the PGA Tour’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am. The caddie for Geoff Couch, a businessman who is paired with pro Max McGreevy, collapsed on Pebble Beach’s 11th hole and was taken away from the course in an ambulance.

ESPN’s Paolo Uggetti was on the scene and reported on the ordeal with a long Twitter thread.

In a later article, he detailed that country singer Lukas Nelson, who was in the group as well and paired with pro Beau Hossler — as well as the Golf Channel — both reported that the caddie’s condition were trending in a positive direction.

“The players and caddies later were seen hugging each other upon receiving news,” Uggetti reported. “When asked about the status of the caddie by ESPN, Nelson said the caddie — whom the PGA Tour did not name — was ‘doing better.’ Golf Channel also reported that the caddie was expected to be OK.”

“He fell on top of himself,” McGreevy said, per Uggetti. “We just took the bag off him quickly so they could do CPR.”

While Couch left the course, McGreevy, Hossler and Nelson all remained and talked with officials about resuming their round. The golfers, as well as Nelson, were hesitant to do so.

The incident brought back memories of Buffalo Bills safety Damar Hamlin collapsing on the field during a Monday Night Football game against the Cincinnati Bengals in January. Nelson (per Uggetti) even made that comparison, when talking about why he didn’t wish to continue playing.

Initially, they let the trailing groups play through. Then, at 2:52 local time, nearly two hours after the incident, they returned to the 11th hole to finish their rounds.

And at 4:56 local time, they reached Pebble Beach’s 18th hole.

PGA Tour Communications issued a statement at 2:01 local time and more than four hours later, no update had been given on the caddie’s condition.

Hossler ended up shooting an even-par round of 72 on Friday and is three-under for the tournament. He bogeyed the 12th hole following the delay, but made birdies on 14 and 18. McGreevy also bogeyed No. 12 but like his playing partner, made birdie on 18. He finished the day with a three-over 75 and is at three-over for the tournament heading into Saturday’s round.
