Phil Mickelson was one of the first golfers to leave the PGA Tour for LIV Golf and has been quite outspoken about it since.
He and several other golfers have been a bit snippy lately when it comes to their respective tours. Now, Mickelson has a few words to say about the current PGA Championship field.
Mickelson seems to be upset that some LIV golfers weren’t asked to participate in the PGA Championship and he pointed that out in a now-deleted tweet.
“3 years from now who is most likely to still be here? Monahan or LIV? We won’t forget. You too Whan,” Mickelson wrote.
In order to be invited to the PGA Championship, you have to be ranked, and since the Official World Golf Ranking doesn’t recognize LIV events, players who left the PGA for the LIV have dropped in the rankings and most won’t be invited, which is why Mickelson is upset.
Unless something changes in the near future, it looks like many of those LIV golfers won’t be invited to any of the upcoming majors as well.
The PGA doesn’t run The Masters, which allowed LIV golfers to participate. However, they do have a say when it comes to the PGA Championship.
