It’s been a wild week in the world of professional golf as some of the biggest names in the sport signed on to take part in the Saudi-backed LIV Golf series.

Over the last week or so, notable names such as Phil MickelsonDustin JohnsonBryson DeChambeau, and Patrick Reed have decided to take advantage of the financial opportunities that come with the LIV Golf series.

The “cost” of doing business is that you’re aligning yourself with a government that is on the record for committing human rights violations and sanctioning murder.

Some fellow golfers are taking a “live and let live” mentality about the whole thing. While others, like Rory McIlroy, are taking the opportunity to call out what comes with all that money.

McIlroy has been one of the league’s loudest critics, previously calling it a “failed endeavor” that would never get enough golfers to fully compete in tournaments. He wasn’t right on that one, but that hasn’t stopped him from commenting on the money-focused decision-making that is bringing so many golfers over.

“I was speaking to a few people yesterday, and one of the comments was, ‘Any decision you make in your life purely for money doesn’t usually end up going the right way,’” he told reporters. “Obviously money is a deciding factor in a lot of things in this world, but if it’s purely for money it never seems to go the way you want it to.”

Rory’s comments garnered some strong reactions from the golf world as fans and media make sense of all the moves. Some agreed with his thoughts while others pointed out the potential hypocrisies with it.
