Rory McIlroy LIV June 4, 2023: Dublin, Ohio, USA; Rory McIIroy watches his tee shot on the first hole during the final round of the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club.

If you thought that the fight between the PGA Tour and its golfers are over, think again. According to reports, there was a heated exchange between several golfers including Rory McIlroy with each other and Jay Monahan, the commissioner of the PGA Tour.

Many, if not all of the players, had no clue this deal was coming and they were angry about it especially when several were offered millions to leave.

The meeting lasted about 75 minutes, which PGA commissioner Jay Monahan called “intense and certainly heated.”

The Golf Channel reported that Johnson Wagner, a former tour player, had access to the meeting and talked about it. In one of the exchanges, McIlroy told world number 227 Grayson Murray to “just play better” as Murray criticized Monahan.

Murray reportedly responded by telling McIlroy to “[blank] off”, although later Wesley Bryan said the two were cordial after that exchange.

“We chatted as a group of players and we were laughing about the comment. No beef or hard feelings either way,” he said.

But the question still reminds who is all on board? Several players expressed their disappointment in the deal and although Monahan said he felt it was the right thing to do financially, was it the right thing to do morally?

“They have helped re-architect the future of the PGA Tour, they have moved us to a more competitive model,” Monahan said.

And there is still one huge voice we haven’t heard from…Tiger Woods. His response may be the deciding factor in all of this and what he plans to do next. Many suggested that Woods start his own league or become the next commissioner, if that happens, chaos may ensue.
