One of golf’s biggest tournaments is taking place this weekend at TPC Sawgrass. The Players Championship has been delayed heavily due to inclement weather on Thursday and Friday.
As a result of these delays, players took to the course for their third round of action on Sunday, and the tournament will end on Monday.
Despite the altered schedule, Sunday brought us a bit of history as Shane Lowry hit a hole-in-one on the infamous island 17th hole.

Lowry’s ace was rare as it was the tenth hole-in-one on 17 in the history of this course. It has taken the golf world by storm.
Shane Lowry joins an exclusive club. Only Brad Fabel, Brian Claar, Fred Couples, Joey Sindelar, Paul Azinger, Miguel Angel Jimenez (of course), Will Wilcox, Sergio Garcia, Ryan Moore and now Lowry have aced the 17th hole during The Players.

Shane Lowry has now made a hole-in-one at the 16th at Augusta during the Masters and the 17th at TPC Sawgrass during the Players.

This marks Lowry’s second ace in competition, with his first coming at the 2016 Masters.
Shane Lowry’s ace with a wedge from 124 yards at No. 17 in R3 at THE PLAYERS is the 10th on that hole in tournament history and the first since 2019 (Ryan Moore/R1). It marks the second ace on TOUR for Lowry (2016 Masters Tournament).

The shot put Lowry at four under par for the tournament, and while he’s still multiple shots behind the lead, hitting an ace on 17 at TPC Sawgrass has to be a great feeling for the Irishman that he can look back on for years to come.
