Tiger Woods Tiger Woods makes his return to golf at the 2023 Hero World Challenge at Albany in the Bahamas.

Now that Tiger Woods is on the verge of missing the cut at The Open Championship, several people have called to say he should retire from golf. The latest to say it is Fox Sports commentator Skip Bayless, who says it’s time for Tiger to call it a career.

“Tiger Woods should quit trying to play in golf’s major championships before he embarrasses himself even worse than he already has,” he said.

Bayless doesn’t believe Woods will not win another major in his life, although he says he wants to believe still that he can pull it off because, as he said, “He’s Tiger Freakin Woods” but Bayless, like so many others, has lost faith in Woods and think the magic of his early years is gone.

Golf legend Colin Montgomerie called on Woods to retire last week, weeks after he missed the cut at the U.S. Open.

“Aren’t we there? I’d have thought we were past there,” Montgomerie said. “There is a time for all sportsmen to say goodbye, but it’s very difficult to tell Tiger it’s time to go. Obviously, he still feels he can win. We are more realistic.”

On the other hand, Tiger made it clear he’s not going anywhere.

“As a past champion, I’m exempt until I’m 60,” Woods said. “Colin’s not. He’s not a past champion, so he’s not exempt. So he doesn’t get the opportunity to make that decision. I do. …

“When I get to his age, I get to still make that decision, where he doesn’t,” he said. “I’ll play as long as I can play, and I feel like I can still win the event.”

So it sounds like Tiger will play as long as he feels he can, and there is nothing anyone can do about it.
