Tiger Woods is near the top of the leaderboard at Torrey Pines this weekend, one of the places where he seemingly always plays well. But he started today’s final round needing to make up ground, a need exacerbated by an opening hole bogey.

After a perfect tee shot on the second, Tiger had about 140 yards to the flag, a distance he had measured as perfectly as possible. The ball landed short, took a few soft hops, and then disappeared into the hole.

Except, well:

Apparently some kind of quantum fluctuation dictated that Tiger didn’t deserve an eagle there. If you listen closely, you can probably hear CBS executives shouting their displeasure, too. (And, yes, sure, obviously it just caught a bit of the pin and spun its way back out, but that’s not as fun.)
