Donald Trump and Tiger Woods Scott Taetsch-USA TODAY Sports

The biggest sports story of the week has undeniably been the arrest of golf superstar Tiger Woods, who was charged with DUI after a rollover crash in Florida. As it turns out, it looks like he tried to call in a favor from his good friend, United States President Donald Trump.

On Thursday, the body cam footage of Woods’ arrest was officially released by authorities, and it showed a rather bizarre moment where the golf superstar claims to have called Donald Trump on the phone, presumably for his assistance.

The incident happened before Woods was cuffed as authorities were assessing the scene. Before police performed a field sobriety test on Woods, the golf legend was permitted to sit in a police cruiser. At one point, however, he walked away from the cruiser and into the distance, resulting in the police calling him back.

“Mr. Woods,” an officer could be heard calling to the golfer as he walked away. “We need you to hang out down here with us, please.”

Woods did turn around and walk back toward the police cruiser as he appeared to finish a conversation on the phone.

“Thank you so much. All right. You got it. Bye,” Woods could be heard saying.

When the officer reiterated that they needed him to stay nearby, Woods responded by telling him that he was on the phone with Trump.

“I was just talking to the president,” Woods told the officer.

Trump had previously indicated that he had spoken to Woods following his arrest, but did not give a timeline for their conversation.

“I feel so bad. He’s got some difficulty — there was an accident, and that’s all I know,” Trump said at the time via TMZ. “A very close friend of mine, he’s an amazing person, an amazing man. But some difficulty. I don’t want to talk about it.”

Needless to say, this whole situation led to a lot of reactions on social media.

“Anyone getting tired of this two tiered justice system?” one person wrote in a post on X.

“Of course he called Trump,” someone else added.

“I’ve never hated someone more… ‘just talking to the president,'” another person wrote.

“Just trying to use a get out of jail free card,” someone else added.

“What a joke,” another person added.

It’s no secret that Trump and Woods share a close relationship, but that was certainly a bizarre time for it to show itself.
