Urban Meyer, a three-time national champion coach who currently works for Fox Sports, recently declared he was done coaching.

Meyer last coached with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The organization fired him after a 2-11 start to the 2021 season that also included multiple embarrassing incidents off the field as well.

Meyer has a history of backtracking on such retirement declarations, so it’s understandable if anyone thinks he isn’t done coaching.

However, Billy Horschel, a PGA golfer and defending champion of the Memorial Tournament in Meyer’s old haunt of Dublin, Ohio, recently ran into Meyer and confirmed that he’s done coaching.

“Horschel said that when the two former Gators bumped into each other in Chicago last month, Meyer told him he was done coaching. Meyer said the job took too much out of him, plus the college game has changed so much with NIL and the transfer rules that he would need to change his methods to be successful. That, and the three-time national champion, which includes the 2014 title with the Buckeyes, is enjoying his TV gig with Fox and loves being around his grandchildren,” Rob Oller of The Columbus Dispatch wrote.

Horschel said Meyer’s wife, Shelley, confirmed the news as well.

“I looked at (Shelley), and she nodded (when Urban said he was done coaching),” Horschel said with a laugh.

Meyer is set to serve as an analyst for Big Noon Kickoff this upcoming season.
