Kanye West’s Donda Academy and its elite prep boys’ basketball team received a shocking update on Friday. The team won’t play this season as the program canceled the remainder of its games amid a major wave of player exoduses.

Josh Peter of USA TODAY wrote, “The 2022-23 basketball season has been canceled for the elite prep team at Donda Academy, the private school started by Kanye West after the four remaining players left the school.” Peter received this information from a forward on the team named Keyon Kinsie, and the mother of forward Justin Johnson, Kimberly Hicks.

Ye’s recent antisemitic comments have created a catastrophic fallout. Adidas dropped the hip-hop star from a major endorsement deal. Many pro athletes removed themselves from his sports agency, Donda Sports.

In addition, multiple tournaments booted the elite prep team, and games were canceled. The school shut down for the 2022-23 academic school year as well.

Clearly, if no one can attend the school, then there won’t be a basketball program. Unfortunately, that means many elite high school athletes don’t have a team now. Through no fault of their own, all of them lost huge opportunities. Hopefully, all the kids land on their feet and are able to forge successful basketball careers.
