LeBron James famously did not play college basketball, instead opting to go directly from high school to the NBA. His son., 17-year-old Bronny James, won’t have that option thanks to a change in the CBA (unless he wants to wait it out until he’s 19). However, while the younger James hasn’t officially put out a list of schools he’s interested in yet, one insider says that there a few college basketball programs that have his attention.

According to Eric Bossi of 247Sports, James is believed to have an interest in Duke, Ohio State, Tennessee, and Texas. Bossi reiterated that the 6’3″ Sierra Canyon junior is effectively cut-off from the media at this point, so this is based on whatever insider speculation and sourcing is available, but not an official list.

That list shares a lot of similarities with LeBron’s presumptive list of college choices had he pursued it. In 2020, Dick Vitale said that James’ list of potential college homes included Duke, Florida, Louisville, North Carolina, and Ohio State. It was always presumed that he would have played for Ohio State, the school that the Akron native grew up rooting for, but one wonders what could have been had LeBron gone the full college recruitment route. Perhaps Coach K could have swayed him.

“For sure I would’ve been one of those kids if I would have went off to Ohio State or I would have went off to any one of these big-time colleges where pretty much that 23 jersey would have got sold all over the place without my name on the back but everybody would’ve known the likeness,” said LeBron in 2019.

All eyes will be on Bronny to see where he eventually plays college ball. Ever since he was seen dunking at 13, his basketball future has been up for debate as he attempts to play in the shadow of his superstar dad. Much like Arch Manning in college football, this will be a decision that is going to make a lot of headlines and come with a ton of expectations, wherever he ends up.
