Some parents take their children’s sports a bit too seriously. One of these situations arose in Amory, Mississippi on Thursday night, when Hamilton High School girls basketball head coach Sue Verner was allegedly assaulted by a parent during a boys basketball game.

Here are the details of the assault, according to WCBI-TV in Mississippi.

WCBI has learned that coach Verner was enforcing a rule that players must ride the bus back to the school following away games. The parent of a player did not agree with the rule and an altercation ensued which resulted in the parent attacking Verner.

Verner was “knocked out cold” according to the information WCBI received and she was transported to the hospital.

According to Brandon Speck of the Daily Journal, Verner was released from the hospital Thursday evening with a fracture under her left eye and a gash above the other.

Attacking a coach because of a rule requiring your child to ride the bus back to the school after an away game? Really? That’s worth an assault charge?

The parent in question is Heather Thompson, a 36-year old who turned herself in on Thursday night was charged with simple assault on a school official, a felony charge in Mississippi.

But remember – it’s the kids that are out of control, not the parents.
