There’s nothing quite like high school football in Texas.
The state championship takes the traditional intensity level and ramps it up, leading to big-time players making big-time plays.
Such was the case in Wednesday’s Class 2A Championship between the Tolar Rattlers and Timpson Tigers.
Timpson quarterback Terry Bussey made the most of his time under the bright lights at AT&T Stadium.
First, Bussey found wide receiver Dacorian Johnson for a 97-yard touchdown, breaking the record for the longest touchdown pass in Class 2A championship history to put Timpson up 14-0.

Later in the first half, took a handoff in the backfield and broke free, resulting in a state championship record-setting 93-yard touchdown run to put Timpson up 21-0, capping off a pair of highlight-reel record-setting moments in the same 10-minute stretch of game time.

Bussey committed to the Texas A&M Aggies in September and has remained committed despite the firing of Jimbo Fisher. He is listed as an athlete instead of a position and is the top-ranked athlete in the country and the five-star recruit is the fourth-best player in the state of Texas. He had visits with the Texas Longhorns, Oklahoma Sooners, LSU Tigers, and Alabama Crimson Tide before deciding to commit to the Aggies.
If Timpson can hold on, it would be the first state championship in school history.
