Texas high school football is among the most competitive in the country. Wednesday’s State Championship Game was anything but, however.

The Abbott Panthers and the Westbrook Wildcats did battle at JerryWorld in the UIL Texas Football State Championship Final. Abbott was 14-0 going into the game while Westbrook sat at 13-1 according to MaxPreps. So, this looked prime to be a strong matchup between two of the best football teams in their conference.

But it was not to be on the football field. Westbrook walloped Abbott and finished Wednesday afternoon with a 69-24 victory. The Wildcats won the game on a walk-off touchdown but there was no drama involved in the finish. The mercy rule was triggered after the touchdown was scored! The bell was rung and Abbott just let up too many points for the game to fairly continue.

Westbrook’s victory didn’t come without some trickery along the way. Bally Sports’ Texas HS sports account pointed out that they pulled out all the stops en route to their championship win.

Westbrook celebrated their win after and celebrated in some interesting and unique ways. The Bally Sports Texas High School Twitter account pointed out that the mascot got in on the fun. And by fun, they mean that the mascot ate the medal. They tweeted, “The Wildcat is currently eating their state champion medal.”

UPDATE (6:27 p.m. ET): The article was adjusted to reflect that the player did, in fact, go into the end zone in the first highlight clip.
