Chicago Cubs fans around the country are celebrating a long-awaited World Series title this week, but there are not too many Cubs fans around who have waited quite as long as Hazel Nilson has to experience the thrill of a Cubs championship victory.

Nilson is 108 years young and a long time (like, really long time) Cubs fan currently residing in New Hampshire. You’d better believe she stayed up as late as necessary to watch the Cubs win it all in dramatic fashion Wednesday night in Cleveland.

“I always had hope that someday they’d win, and by golly, they did,” Nilson said. “It was a night I’ll never forget. We were all rooting for the Cubs, and suddenly they had the hit that scored the run. We all yelled — I even jumped up!”

Nilson was just a few months old the last time the Cubs won it all, making Nilson one of the very few people on this entire planet that can say they were alive for the last two Cubs World Series championships.

Here’s hoping the infants in Chicago today will not have to wait as long to experience this thrill in their respective futures.
