If you watch much baseball, you’ve probably seen thousands of double plays turned in your life, but I’m going to guess you’ve never seen one turned like the one the Dayton Dragons (Reds’ Single-A affiliate) turned against the South Bend Cubs on Thursday night in Midwest League action.

With no outs in the top of the fifth, South Bend’s P.J. Higgins ripped a line drive that drilled Dayton pitcher Alex Webb, before then hitting second base umpire Isaias Barba, and then conveniently going right to the shortstop standing over second base, for an easy double play.

It looks every bit as crazy as it sounds:

That will go as a simple 1-6-3 double play in the box score.
