The Oakland Athletics got no respect after leaving Seattle with a series sweep this weekend. It just so happened the plane flying the A’s back to Oakland featured the logo of another team from across the bay, the San Francisco Giants, the team that won’t let them move to San Jose and just poached their AAA affiliate in Sacramento.

A’s outfielder Josh Reddick summed it perfectly with the appropriate hashtag on his Twitter account…

This has to be a bit of an embarrassing situation for the Oakland Athletics. We don’t see the Mets flying on a Yankees-branded plane, do we? And Heaven help us if the Cubs were to ever board a plane with a White Sox logo on it. In fact, maybe the A’s should have stayed off the plane and stand in protest until a different plane was made available.

It turns out the reason for the plane was because the charter plane usually reserved for the A’s was in use by the Dallas Mavericks.

“Our charter contract is with MLW Air. Per our contract, we share a plane with the Dallas Mavericks and in the case of dual events, MLW Air subservices another charter on our behalf,” A’s director of corporate communications Catherine Aker said to ESPN. “Because of the Mavericks game yesterday [in Los Angeles], MLW Air subserviced Eastern Airline for our flight. We were unaware of the Giants logo on the plane until we arrived and addressed our dissatisfaction with MLW Air.”

Hopefully the A’s got a good laugh about the misbranded plane. A San Francisco Giants fan account sure did.

Reddick responded…

Besides the logo for the Giants, Reddick expressed a preference for the normal Mavs’ plane the A’s usually fly on.
