For the first time in MLB history, teams can sport sponsorship patches on their uniforms. It didn’t take long for the Houston Astros to take advantage of the inaugural custom. Their new sponsorship logo was modeled off by third baseman Alex Bregman.

“Today, we announced an expansion of our partnership with @WeAreOxy to become our official jersey partner for the next seven seasons,” the club announced in a tweet on Thursday.

Oxy, according to its website, is “an international energy company with assets primarily in the United States, the Middle East, and North Africa.”

This has been a long time coming for MLB. The league experimented with the sponsorship decals on helmets back in 2019. During the London series when the New York Yankees faced the Boston Red Sox, Mitel was the helmet sponsor.

The Philadelphia Phillies are reported to also be implementing the new jersey sponsor in the upcoming season.

MLB required the sizes of these newly implemented patches to be 4-by-4 inches on either the left or right sleeve of the uniforms. They must remain consistent for at least one year. MLB and the MLB Players Association must approve each patch for each team. But MLB won’t allow alcohol, betting, and media brands.

So, what are your thoughts on the new look?
