Astros second baseman Mauricio Dubón starred against his former team on Monday night, recording three hits against the San Francisco Giants. After the game, he had plenty to say about what the game meant and his previous stint in San Francisco.

Dubón has been an impact player for the Astros thus far this season, leading the team in batting average.

This was only aided by a big game on Monday night where he provided some extremely timely hitting, driving in runs in both the fifth and seventh innings.

He spoke to the media after the game, where he revealed exactly why this game meant a little extra to him.

“I was not treated the right way over there,” Dubón said in a video shared on Twitter by Astros beat reporter Brian McTaggart. “So coming over here and being a family here and being able to perform makes the human side come out.

Mauricio Dubón was then asked to elaborate on what he meant by being treated poorly. He revealed that he didn’t receive the playing time that he desired, which isn’t an issue under current manager Dusty Baker in Houston.

“There was some stuff over there. You would probably think I’d get more playing time. With Dusty (Baker) here now, I’m in heaven.”

The 28-year-old second baseman was certainly an under-the-radar move for the Astros. He was traded to the team in May, 2022, then re-signed on a one-year deal worth just $1.4 million with the Astros this past offseason.

It’s still early in the season, but thus far the Astros have to be pleased with his performance on the team. Meanwhile, the Giants are likely kicking themselves for both not keeping him around and not playing him more when he was in town.
