President Barack Obama is a proud fan of the Chicago White Sox and is loyal to the Chicago sports scene. However, he has taken on the fandom of the White Sox, which is supposed to prohibit one from being capable of rooting for the crosstown Chicago Cubs. With the White Sox out of the mix, Obama is hopping on the Cubs bandwagon this postseason.

“Well, the president is a loyal Chicago White Sox fan,” White House press secretary Josh Earnest told Lynn Sweet of the Chicago Sun-Times. “And in his mind, when it comes to evaluating baseball teams, that’s the team that comes first.”

Keep in mind, this is a president that sneaks in a White Sox cap when throwing out the first pitch for the Washington Nationals. The dude loves his White Sox.

“But the president is also a champion of his hometown. And he certainly has been pleased to see the Chicago Cubs play so well this year.”

Is this even allowed? Is one allowed to just root for the other team like this? If it’s simply about hometown pride, sure, that’s fine. But when you are so heavily invested in rooting for one team in the city, can you really show much support for the other team? Did we see any Yankees fans pulling for the Mets? Do Jets fans root for the Giants in the Super Bowl (even against the Patriots)? I doubt we see Angels fans rooting for the Dodgers this postseason, right?

The good news, perhaps for Obama, is even if the Cubs do happen to break their World Series drought this October, he may not have to see them in the White House. The World Series champions typically don’t get to the White house before inauguration day, so Obama will be out of office by the time this year’s World Series champion can schedule a trip to the White House. That means the World Series champion will be welcomed by either Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton.

Let the record show, Obama was against the Cubs before he was for them. What a flip-flopper we have in the Oval Office. Surely this will become the latest fodder to be used by Donald Trump on the campaign trail in some way.
