Tonight in “MLB teams continue to handle themselves like teenagers”, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Miami Marlins got into a bench-clearing scrum after Dodgers pitcher Ross Stripling threw a pitch behind Marlins star Giancarlo Stanton in the top of the ninth inning.

The incident came after Marlins reliever A.J. Ramos drilled the Dodgers’ Brett Eibner with a pitch in the bottom of the eighth inning.

Here’s video (via Chad Moriyama):

Don Mattingly was right in the middle of that fracas, and that’s certainly interesting given that the current Miami manager was the Dodgers’ manager from 2011 to 2015. He’s certainly quite familiar with many of the people he was getting into it with on the field.

Mattingly seemed to specifically be angry at Los Angeles bench coach Bob Geren, and those two were teammates together on the New York Yankees from 1988-91. So that’s also interesting!

Mattingly, Geren, and Stripling were all ejected from the game.

Stripling is certainly lucky that he didn’t get into a fight with the 6’6″, 245-pound Stanton. The Marlins’ slugger suffered fractures on his face after getting hit by a pitch in 2014, and surely doesn’t take kindly to beanball wars.

UPDATE: Don Mattingly reportedly was angry about Corey Seager swinging 3-0 in the seventh inning while the Dodgers were up 5-0.

In other news, unwritten rules are the worst.
