While Blake Snell has achieved a lot in his career, he completed a notable first on Friday — a no-hitter.
Snell took the ball for the San Francisco Giants for the opening game of a three-game series at the Great American Ball Park against the Cincinnati Reds. Snell was overpowering, going the full nine innings while allowing no runs and only three walks with 11 strikeouts. Of course, he also surrendered no hits.
Snell got Cincinnati’s Elly De La Cruz to fly out to San Francisco right fielder Mike Yastrzemski for the final out of the game.
“He hits a fly ball, right center, Yastrzemski HAS IT. And Blake Snell has pitched the first no-hitter of his brilliant career here in Cincinnati.”

It was not just the first no-hitter of Snell’s career. Snell is one of only 22 pitchers to win multiple Cy Young Awards and is one of only seven to win the Cy Young in each league. Despite that, Friday’s no-hitter was the first complete game of his career. In fact, Friday’s no-hitter marked the first time in his career that Snell even completed eight innings.
Not only pitching into the ninth inning but completing the no-hitter got the attention of the baseball world.
Congrats to Blake Snell on the no-hitter. Never even went 8 innings before tonight. 114 pitches, his arm is still attached to his body, and he did something everyone in that stadium will remember forever. Let’s keep playing real baseball, people.

Blake Snell has done all of these things in the last month. Just an insane run:
– 5 shutout innings, 1 hit
– 7 shutout innings, 1 hit
– 6 shutout innings, 2 hits, 15 strikeouts
– No-hitter— Alex Pavlovic (@PavlovicNBCS) August 3, 2024
Salute to Blake Snell. First no hitter of his career

It’s a cliche but nobody will want to face Snell in a big game down the stretch or possibly in October https://t.co/MEA4Dc3KUR
