Brandon Belt isn’t thrilled with his buddy D.J. LeMahieu.
The San Francisco Giants belted the Colorado Rockies 12-3 on Tuesday night, and the Giants’ long-time first baseman led the charge with three hits. Belt would have added another hit without an impressive stab and dive from his friend, Rockies second baseman LeMahieu. LeMahieu showed off his athleticism and length on the shift, robbing Belt of a would-be single.

It’s an impressive grab and turn from LeMahieu, who currently leads MLB with a .350 average.
After the game, Belt discussed the play. He said he hates LeMahieu for robbing him of hits all the time and wanted to punch the “nice guy” in the face.

Usually, comments about a player wanting to get physical with another player would warrant attention from the league, but Belt was paying respects to LeMahieu, a friend of his who happens to be a damn good baseball player. Getting a potential fourth hit robbed by a buddy’s nice play gives LeMahieu some bragging rights the next time to two hang out. Belt likely doesn’t want to hear it.
Kudos to LeMahieu for making such a slick play, but the winner here is Belt for the glorious soundbite. A fourth hit would have been nice, but the competitive comments will do the trick.
