The Atlanta Braves have had a disastrous season despite coming into the year with high hopes. And unfortunately, the team’s prospects got even worse when their star right fielder Ronald Acuña Jr. was forced to leave Tuesday’s game with an injury that could great impact his career.
After attempting to track down a fly ball in right field in the bottom of the sixth inning, Acuña was quite clearly hobbled, which forced him to be removed from the game after the inning had concluded.

It was clearly a lower leg injury for Acuña. But unfortunately, the injury could be even more devastating than most would have anticipated.
At the moment, Acuña has been diagnosed with right Achilles tightness. But often times with this diagnosis, the underlying issue comes from a torn Achilles, which would force Acuña to miss not only the rest of the 2025 season, but much if not all of the 2026 season.
According to Braves beat writer Mark Bowman, Acuña is expected to undergo an MRI on Wednesday to determine the underlying severity of the injury.
Acuña held back tears as he talked after tonight’s game. He said he’ll be further evaluated (likely MRI) tomorrow. He felt discomfort when he scored from first on Monday. He lobbied to play today because in his mind he had missed too much time already this season.

It’s truly unfortunate to see Acuña suffer what could be a career-altering injury in what sure seems to be a lost season for the Braves. But at least on the bright side, there is still at least some hope that Acuña’s injury may not be the worst-case scenario some are expecting it to be.
