Super-teams are all the rage these days, it seems. Could baseball be heading in that direction too? We have a long way to go to even suggest that is possible, but any time a star player the caliber of Bryce Harper drops so much as an ounce of a hint he is interested in leaving his current team to play somewhere else, our collective eyes pop wide open.

The defending World Series champion Chicago Cubs are in the nation’s capital this week for a series with Harper’s Washington Nationals. That means former Little League teammates Harper and Kris Bryant got a chance to reunite off the field, which is always a good time for a quick photo op. Harper shared an image of the two with their significant others on Instagram, and he included quite the interesting hashtag at the end of his caption.

Back-to-back some day. What does it mean? The most obvious explanation is Harper would like to one day play with his former Little League teammate on a championship team, or even more simply, perhaps just that the two will be back-to-back in the batting order. This becomes extra juicy because Harper is set to hit the free agent market for the first time after the 2018 season. Despite being more than a year away, the speculation about Harper’s future in Washington is already a major topic, just as it seems to be for LeBron James the minute he becomes two years away from free agency.

Or maybe Harper is just making some Drake references?

It also could mean absolutely nothing at all. Harper may be incredibly happy with the Nationals and never think about following Bryant to the Cubs or any other team. Maybe Harper is just having fun messing with people’s minds? Whatever the motives, Harper will no doubt be asked about it by somebody. And when he is, you know what the answer will be.
